Week Beginning 16th April

Week beginning 16th April

Welcome back to school! Here we are in Summer term already! The children have settled back into the routines well and have loved sharing all the lovely things they got up to in the holidays. I hope you all managed to have a lovely and restful break.

You should have received an overview of our topic for the whole of Summer term which details what we will be covering until July. Our topic is 'Fairytale Fixers' which is what our Mantle will be focused on, we will be covering a range of Traditional tales and Fairytales.

This week we have been:

  • In Phonics we been focusing on short vowels and CVCC words
  • New tricky words in Phonics have been: said, so, have and like.
  • Nursery Listening time: blend from the box, new sound 'r', recapping taught sounds, clapping out syllables, and thinking of our own rhyming words.
  • Reception- In Maths we have been focusing on numbers beyond ten. We have been using the tens frames to show the how a full tens frame always shows 10 and then we can count on the next tens frame to find the number.
  • Nursery - In Maths we have been focusing on positional language in, on and under. The children have been using this language to tell me where the bear is, as well as recognising the number 2 without counting.
  • Reception - In Drawing Club we have watched Pink Panther which they children have loved! From this we have drawn Pink Panther, his house, a new friend of Pink Panther and an invention to pick up all the mess.
  • We have started our Mantle this week where we need to help the Three Little Pigs Mum feel better about her children leaving home.

Reception: how you can help at home:

  • practicing number bonds to 5 and 10
  • writing sentences, including capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

  • writing numbers

  • water bottles are needed everyday please
  • I will be changing books on a Friday so please can children bring their books in
  • With Phonics group reading, you may find your child reading the same book. Please do not worry this helps build their fluency and confidence.

Have a lovely weekend!
