Week beginning 23.01.23

This week we have been focusing on the book 'The Rooster's Off to See the World'. The children have been creating some beautiful artwork based on this, using a range of different resources such as paint, collage materials, junk modelling etc. They have also worked hard to use their phonics to write about the story which is great to see! As well as this book we have also been participating in bird watch week. Where we have made our own bird feeders and have already seen more birds in our garden! Some things we have enjoyed this week are: exploring the ice outside especially when the dinosaurs were stuck inside and we have to think of ways to get them out using different loose parts to make different spiral patterns  making bird feeds out of cheerios and pipe cleaners  creating collages  using our phonics knowledge in our writing  Phonics: This week we have been reviewing some of the sounds that we have already learnt. These were j v w y and z. I have been sounding out words

What a busy week we have had! This week we have been learning about Chinese new year which is this Sunday. The children watched some clips of a child explaining how they celebrate Chinese new year, they loved seeing the costumes and the dragons! In class we had lots of different Chinese new year activities such as, lantern making, red envelope making, Chinese restaurant role play, blossom tree making it was great to see the children explore the culture.  Some things we have enjoyed this week are: exploring the ice outside  using different loose parts to make their own worlds and using their amazing imagination  using rice to mark make in the tuff tray  creating with junk modelling  painting  Phonics: This week I spent some time to see where there were some gaps in our phonics knowledge. I wanted to do this so I knew what sounds I needed to recap as I would not expect all children to be able to retain all the sounds that we have learnt so far. We did this in a fun way where the children

Welcome back!

First week back 😝 I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a brilliant start to 2023!!  Doesn't the holiday go fast, it seems like before I knew it it was back to work!  When we welcomed the children back into school on Wednesday it was lovely to see them all with a big smile on their face :) I couldn't help but notice how much taller and grown up they are, and found myself feeling a bit sad when I thought how quickly that first term went and how we have already completed a 1/3 of our year together!  This week we have focused on settling back into our routine and catching up with each other. I have been really impressed with how well the children have settled. We now have Mrs Overton-Arch who is in Class 1 for some of the day now Some things we have enjoyed this week are: creating dinosaur words with loose parts using magnifying glasses to find bugs outside  choosing to write our own sentences  mixing primary colours reviewing our phonics sounds Ways to help at home: read wit
