Week beginning 9.1.23

We have had a good first full week back at school this week. We have been focusing on one of Eric Carle's books - "Slowly, Slowly said the Sloth". The children have used this as a focus and have created some beautiful artwork based on this. 

Some things we have enjoyed this week are:

  • designing car tracks before building them
  • making our own cities out of blocks
  • creating collage pictures 
  • learning new sounds - oo ar ur or oo 
  • creating with junk modelling 
  • making the alphabet and finding toys that match the letter 

Ways to help at home:
  • read with your child(ren) 3 times a week minimum
  • touch counting 
  • one more and one less than a number
  • recognising numbers and writing them 
  • practice phonics, and blending sounds together
  • picking words from their reading book for them to write, slowly sounding out the word for children to hear and write the sounds
  • practice their words 
  • practice letter formation 
  • practice name writing - capitals only at the beginning

Phonics - 
Below, is a link to a youtube video of the pure sounds, we have learnt up to or. The video shows more, but there is no harm in the children seeing these as we will be moving onto them next term. 


A few reminders: 
  • please can you write in the reading records so we know if your child(ren) have read at home, I would like children to read a book at least twice to aid their comprehension 
  • please let us know if the book it too easy/hard for your child, we want to instill a love of reading and therefore the correct book match is important 
  • please watch the phonics videos if you can with your child(ren) - feel free to share photos/videos with me on tapestry 
  • Don't forget to book in parents evening appointments 
Nursery - 

Nursery children have been enjoying their daily phonics sessions with Miss G where they are focusing on making noises with their body and playing some games. They have also continued to practice recognising and writing their name. Nursery children have also been enjoying counting through songs using props to help them too.

Week beginning 5th February

Week beginning 5th February  This week despite the rain we have had a lovely week :) We have been busy in our Mantle sessions as we begin our work as Scientists on a secret dinosaur Island and will continue this next term. The children have enjoyed having free access to the art area which means they can pick what they want to create and what resources to use.  If anyone has any phonics or badger books at home anywhere please can you bring them back to school.  You may find that your child is bringing a phonics book that they have read before, this is because I have changed the reading groups. Please don't worry about this, even if they read a book they have read before it will help with fluency and their confidence. As when I have read with them this week, even if they have read the book before they still need to sound out some words so it is not too easy for them.  On Monday we will be watching Emma (Seth's Mum) plant a tree in our area, the children are very excite...

Week beginning 13th May

 Week beginning 13th May I was so sad to miss our school trip! But thanks to Mr Howard it all ran smoothly, and I was told that the children were amazing. I am sure they were tired when they got home! I hope to see you all very soon.  This week we have been:  In Phonics we been focusing on reading longer words, and practicing writing these every day too New tricky words in Phonics have been: out and today Nursery Listening time: blend from the box, new sound 'ff', recapping taught sounds, clapping out syllables.  Reception- In Maths we have been looking at shapes, and talking about their properties. Nursery - In Maths we have been looking at  continuing to look at 3D shapes Reception - In Drawing Club we have read 'Pirate Pete' which the children loved!
