Week beginning 16.10.23

Week beginning 16.10.23 And just like that, they have completed their first half term! I hope they have enjoyed their first weeks of school as much as I have! I have loved seeing their confidence grow and to see them begin to flourish here at Little Houghton. It was lovely to see so many of you at parents evening this week. I hope you all have a lovely week off, whether that be on holiday, parties or having a quiet week off! It will be needed for the next term where an extra excitement of Christmas is added in! This week we have been: consolidating our learning of the sounds we have learnt, these are - s a t p i n m d g o c k ck e u r b h f l exploring more Percy the Park Keeper books  writing the initial sounds in words  practicing letter formation of new sounds  beginning to write some cvc words - e.g. mum, kid, red playing dominoes  to Church where the children enjoyed sharing their Harvest art work exploring Maths language like heavier/lighter/more/less  Phonics: we follow the Litt

Week beginning 9th October

Week beginning 09.10.23 Don't the weeks just fly by! I cannot believe the children have nearly finished their first half term of school! I am looking forward to seeing you at parents evening on Monday/Thursday. The children have grown in confidence over the last few weeks and have made brilliant relationships with both their peers and staff. If you missed the reading workshop, you should have received an email with some information from it.  This week we have been: learning new sounds in phonics and remembering the previous ones - s a t p i n m d g o c k ck e u r b h f l oral blending - the actions - touch your h e d, c l a p your hands, touch your f ee t  writing the initial sounds in words  practicing letter formation of new sounds  beginning to write some cvc words - e.g. mum, kid, red completing 'jobs' that are on the tables  paint self portraits  exploring items that are longer and shorter and comparing them  Phonics: we follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme which ha

Week beginning 2nd October

Week beginning 02.10.23 We have had a lovely week at school, the children seem to be getting used to our routines and it has been great to see their confidence grow. They are getting good at coming into school on their own and putting their things away. We are have been working on making sure they self register by putting their picture on the tens frame and also practicing writing their name. Thank you to those who made it to Wednesdays reading workshop with Mrs Simpson, if you missed it I think she is putting together a booklet.  This week we have been: learning new sounds in phonics and remembering the previous ones - s a t p i n m d g o c k ck e u r  oral blending - I say c a t the children say 'cat' etc  exploring different activities each day trying new things outside, the mud kitchen, obstacle courses, role play, mark making with chalk enjoying marching in our PE lesson exploring tens frames and using double sided counters to learn how to make 5  writing a shopping list -
