Week beginning 2nd October

Week beginning 02.10.23

We have had a lovely week at school, the children seem to be getting used to our routines and it has been great to see their confidence grow. They are getting good at coming into school on their own and putting their things away. We are have been working on making sure they self register by putting their picture on the tens frame and also practicing writing their name. Thank you to those who made it to Wednesdays reading workshop with Mrs Simpson, if you missed it I think she is putting together a booklet.

This week we have been:

  • learning new sounds in phonics and remembering the previous ones - s a t p i n m d g o c k ck e u r
  • oral blending - I say c a t the children say 'cat' etc
  • exploring different activities each day
  • trying new things outside, the mud kitchen, obstacle courses, role play, mark making with chalk
  • enjoying marching in our PE lesson
  • exploring tens frames and using double sided counters to learn how to make 5
  • writing a shopping list - the initial sounds of each thing - e.g. s for sausages
Phonics: we follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme which have a link for parents to access so you can see and hear the sounds that they are learning at the moment. The link is https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/ - the phase 2 sounds autumn 1 and we have learnt s a t p i n m d g o c k so far :)

The above link shows the letters and on the last column has the formation phrase to help them write the sounds :)

I have been asked what resources we use in class for maths these are:
numicon
cubes
small animal objects
tens frames
double sided counters

Nursery:

This week nursery children have been
  • exploring 'where's Lenny' book looking for nouns and verbs, practicing the rhyme 12345 once I caught a fish alive, tasted some jam and marmalade like in the story but they weren't keen!
  • counting and singing counting songs
  • reading lots of books
  • mark making
  • recognising numbers
  • learning to sit nicely and engage during group work
Here is a link to some of the nursery rhymes that they have been singing during listening time, please feel free to practice these at home https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/

Ways you can help at home:
-practicing name writing - with correct letter fomation
-helping your child become more independent when changing ready for PE
-reading with your child
-touch counting objects - e.g. lets count how many cars you have

Reading - I now read with children in small groups three times a week and they will have that book in their bag on a Friday to share with you confidently and will keep this book until the following Friday. Please keep their phonics book at home until the following Friday.

Please can I ask that children bring in some wellies to keep at school, we have some in school but they are quite small and old so it would be better for children to bring their own in so they can enjoy playing in the mud.

Reminders:
Book parents evening
Recycling for junk modelling
PE kit for Tuesday
Water bottles in school
Please bring coats
All clothing labelled
Please check tapestry to see your child's learning and feel free to share pictures and videos from home

If you have any questions or worries please let me know.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend :)

Miss Lewis
