Week beginning 9th October
Week beginning 09.10.23
Don't the weeks just fly by! I cannot believe the children have nearly finished their first half term of school! I am looking forward to seeing you at parents evening on Monday/Thursday. The children have grown in confidence over the last few weeks and have made brilliant relationships with both their peers and staff. If you missed the reading workshop, you should have received an email with some information from it.
This week we have been:
- learning new sounds in phonics and remembering the previous ones - s a t p i n m d g o c k ck e u r b h f l
- oral blending - the actions - touch your h e d, c l a p your hands, touch your f ee t
- writing the initial sounds in words
- practicing letter formation of new sounds
- beginning to write some cvc words - e.g. mum, kid, red
- completing 'jobs' that are on the tables
- paint self portraits
- exploring items that are longer and shorter and comparing them
Phonics: we follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme which have a link for parents to access so you can see and hear the sounds that they are learning at the moment. The link is https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/ - the phase 2 sounds autumn 1 and we have learnt s a t p i n m d g o c k so far :)
The above link shows the letters and on the last column has the formation phrase to help them write the sounds :)

Nursery:
This week nursery children have been
- enjoying listening time - this week we introduced the story 'Would You Rather' by John Burningham, and have just started looking at the verbs in the story and following the actions
- counting and singing counting songs
- drawing round themselves outside and using the blocks to measure how long they are
- enjoying role play and singing on the outdoor stage area
- mark making in the role play area
Here is a link to some of the nursery rhymes that they have been singing during listening time, please feel free to practice these at home https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/
Ways you can help at home:
-practicing name writing - with correct letter formation - this can be found on the Little Wandle link - I write their name in a light pen and then put a dot where they need to start writing, this seems to work well
-helping your child become more independent when changing ready for PE
-reading with your child
-touch counting objects - e.g. lets count how many cars you have
Reading - I now read with children in small groups three times a week and they will have that book in their bag on a Friday to share with you confidently and will keep this book until the following Friday. Please keep their phonics book at home until the following Friday.
Next week:
- We will begin our afternoon topic learning through Mantle of the Expert - you can find out more about this here: https://www.mantleoftheexpert.com/what-is-moe/introduction-to-moe/
- Harvest service at Church - 10am
- Parents evenings - Monday and Thursday
- Last day of term - Friday
